This is a plein-air piece done on a Sunday Afternoon.  NYC is even crowded on a Sunday. It's always busy. The nice thing about an overly busy scene is that it’s impossible to render it exactly as you see it, so you have to simplify and suggest spots of value changes and color, I don’t feel any desire to draw everything I see, so that keeps the painting loose and suggestive.
